this is what it feels like [CW: illness, body horror illustration]

Symptom: Aphasia (Word Finding Difficulty Brain Fog)

The body is made of tiled bricks. Up until the chin, they are well-organized and methodical. Above, where the brain is, they are chaotic, haphazard, and jumbled.

Symptom: Aphasia (Word Finding Difficulty Brain Fog)

When I saw this meme, I knew I had to do a version of it, because it so accurately embodies the struggle of aphasia (word-finding difficulty) with brain fog.

I’m not sure if it’s been proven, but I think the neural pruning hypothesis for part of brain fog makes a lot of sense. I feel myself following the pathways in my brain, expecting the word I need to be right there, but it’s, just, missing? and then I have to try to find another word to approximate it even though I know it’s not the right word and I’m just shoving a bunch of remotely similar words in the spot hoping it makes sense.Otherwise smooth and effective brick wall with a hole in it, crammed full of different shapes and sizes of bricks. The caption reads "When you are trying to Word but your words aren't wording so you have to choose a different word."

    This is perfect. ❤️

I hate the symptom but love your depiction of it.
