this is what long covid feels like [CW: illness, body horror illustration]

2024_8_26 anniversary of naming my health problems “long covid”

a figure with a depressed facial expression and cheek rashes holes a cake in front of them and wears a paper crown. The crown and cake have edges that are "off" making them sort of glitched, jagged, or askew. The cake reads "1 1/2" which is roughly how long I've had long covid. the rest of the figure is in grey, and there are light quotes written around the figure "most of my patients get better in a year." "my wife HAD that" "it's too early to know you will not get better." "I got better from long vax." and under the cake "you don't want to live like that."

2024_8_26 It’s the one year anniversary of naming my health problems “long covid”

“happy” anniversary, i guess.

celebrated by getting groceries delivered, reading plague poems about the superspreader events, and trying to get comfortable with the sinking feeling in my stomach. it feels like I’m being left behind by society because people are bored of taking precautions “for” people like me–even though I used to be one of them until I got Covid.

your health is temporary. we are all high risk from the virus which is at a severe high right now. it can take so much from you. please, be careful.

@illmarks 2 1/2 years for me as of this month, and I totally understand how you're feeling. 🫶
